Some people will simply purchase their contact lenses and not give much thought to whether or not they can get a better deal somewhere else.  If you have consistently purchased from your eye care professional, it’s very likely that you have paid more than you need to.

There’s a certain comfort level that comes from purchasing from the person who does your prescription.  It’s also fairly convenient.  You may want to start with this when you are first getting contact lenses, but when you start to compare your contacts price against what is available, you will soon realize that you can save some money.

Going to one of the large retail chains usually won’t get you the cheapest price.  You can rely on good service when you go there in most cases, but you will be paying additional for it.  There are certain places that have retail locations which will have fairly good prices.  Some of the stores that require annual memberships and sell in very large volumes will be able to purchase enough contact lenses to be quite competitive.

For the most part, the cheapest prices are found online, when you compare the contacts price for most online retailers, you’ll find that their lack of overhead will translate into a better deal.  There is also something to be said for the convenience of this method.

Not all prices online are the same.  When you look at a comparison website, you’ll immediately see that the prices for the exact same pair of contact lenses can vary.  A retailer that offers a certain brand at the lowest price by not be able to offer all of them cheaper than its competitors.  That’s why the comparison is so valuable.

Paying more than you need to would not be a good idea when you are purchasing something like your contacts.  The costs can really add up over time.

There are certain things that you can simply purchase without giving it much some thought.  If you’re standing in the checkout line and buying some chewing gum, you don’t even really need to look at the price.  It’s a one-time purchase and it’s not going to have much effect on your bottom line.

When you’re buying something like contact lenses, it does make a lot of sense.  Comparing contacts prices is a good move because you are not only looking at what you’re going to pay this time.  When you find a product that you need to use on a continuous basis like lenses, you’re going to have to buy them many times.  Add up for a moment what you are going to spend on contact lenses in the next 5, 10 or even 15 years.

Initially, it might make sense for you to compare prices from different sources.  You’ll find that there are many different places where you can buy contact lenses.  Your eye care professional will probably sell them.  You will be able to get them from the big optical chains and you can even find them at other retailers now.  There are a number of stores online and there are even comparison websites that can bring you to those stores.

That first time, you’ll figure out what is best for you.  In most cases, the real deals are found online.  If you dig a little bit deeper, you can save even more money.  When you’re comparing contacts prices, make sure that you don’t just look at the price per unit on the website.  Try and take advantage of different deals that offer savings for additional volume.  There made also be perks like free shipping or even coupons that only require you to enter a few digits in order to realize deeper discounts.

You’ll find by reading different sources that a certain website or writer might tell you that there is one way to find the cheapest lenses all the time.  As you can imagine, that is not very likely.  With so many different products on the market and different retailers both online and off, there is going to be a fairly wide variation in price across different sellers.

In most cases, the big optical chains will offer convenience but aren’t going to give you the best price.  If you need to go in for an eye exam and you want it done all in the same place, then this might be a good option for you.  You don’t have to do it that way all the time but every once in a while, it might make sense.

Doing that all the time is probably going to cost you money.  You can look at some of the bigger stores that have annual memberships.  Often, they are dealing in such volume that they can manage to get some pretty good prices.  The difficulty here can be that there are not always the stocks sitting in inventory when you want them.

Many sources will tell you that online is the best way to find contacts for less.  In the majority of cases, this is true.  It does sometimes depend however on the websites that you are choosing.  It’s a good idea to go to a variety of different ones and find what the average price for a particular product is.  If you like a certain brand of contact lenses, then start doing some comparison shopping.  The great thing about shopping on the Internet is it only takes a few seconds to go to the next store.

You can also choose to have some comparison shopping done for you.  The websites that do this will get their information from individual retailers and will often be able to offer you additional incentives because of the relationship they have built with those online sellers.
