Mirror contact lenses are fast gaining popularity in the costume circuit, but a lot of people are confused with what they really are.  Like the name implies, mirror contact lenses are tinted like actual mirrors—they are tiny bits of thin polymer coated with a mirror-like surface.  They are perfect for creepy and scary Halloween costumes, but many people—especially those who want to get a rise out of their unsuspecting friends and acquaintances—are finding that these mirror contact lenses are fun to wear even if Halloween is long over.  Imagine all the fun you will have with having people look into your eyes and freaking them out with their own reflections in the small circle of your irises!

Mirror contact lenses were once reserved for theatrical use, but their popularity has expanded and lots of contact lens manufacturers have produced them for mainstream use.  These mirror contact lenses can get more expensive compared to the other special effects and cosmetic contact lenses in the market, because they can get quite hard to manufacture.  There are mirror contact lenses that cover just the irises, while there are also variations that also cover the pupil.

People who need vision correction cannot use mirror contact lenses—mainly because these mirror contact lenses are made with a material that cannot be used for vision correction.  Also, mirror contact lenses cannot be used for extended periods of time because they block oxygen from flowing freely onto the surface of the eye.  If you are thinking of wearing mirror contact lenses, make sure to get your eye doctor’s opinion first and get the best mirror contact lenses that you can afford for the best quality.  Always remember to remove the mirror contact lenses after six or so hours, and never wear them to sleep.

A lot of people look forward to Halloween. Kids and grown-ups alike can’t wait to put on their Halloween costumes, go trick-or-treating and having a marvelous time. Some even prepare their costumes months in advance just to be the life of the party. But guess what, despite the fabulous costumes and elaborate make-up the effect won’t be complete if your eyes don’t contribute their part to the whole attire.

There are a number of Halloween contact lenses that have become popular during this season. Halloween contact lenses can be described as cosmetic contact lenses that sport special designs reminiscent of horror movies, science fiction and fantasy tales. For example, if you’re going to a party dressed like Vampire Lestat or Vampire Louis from the movie “Interview with the Vampire”, wearing the same kind of eyes that they had in the movie will really complete your ensemble. If you want a pair of creepy Halloween contacts, you should try the black sclera which completely blacks out your eyes. It even has its counterpart, a white sclera that renders your eyes blind with whiteness because you can’t see from out of them. Zombies, ghouls, orcs, and vampires all are well-represented with their very own Halloween contact lenses available in retail stores and direct from manufacturers.

The key is to get them straight from reputable sellers and get your own prescription from your eye doctor. It is imperative that you learn the ins and outs of dealing with contact lenses even though they seem like toys. These are still medical devices that if improperly handled may lead to eye infection and worse, blindness.

When you’ve gotten your pair of Halloween contact lenses, make sure to maintain proper hygiene when handling it. Never share them with anyone. Never sleep in them too. These precautions are necessary if you are to enjoy your Halloween contacts for a long time.
